Getty Images In 1946, when Christian Dior was looking for a spot to open his house of Dior he knew it had to be at 30 Avenue Montaigne. “I was going to settle here and nowhere else,” said the designer of the understated and elegant building with a Haussmann-style facade. The great designer's house of couture would lead the way for other designers like Chanel, Fendi, Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci and Louis Vuitton to open ateliers on the very same street. One of Dior's most beloved haunts on Avenue Montaigne was the Hôtel Plaza Athénée. WIth its iconic red awning and wrought iron balconies filled with red geraniums the Belle Epoque hotel had been embedded into the fabric of Paris since it opened in 1913. Dior was so smitten by the hotel he premiered his first collection at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée in 1947.
