The Very Group has secured £600m in costly new loans in a deal led by Arini, a Mayfair outfit founded by 34-year-old Hamza Lemssouguer. He breeds endangered parrots at his farm in Surrey. The refinancing will provide Very with breathing space as the Barclay family, the former owners of The Telegraph, prepare to relinquish ownership in the latest stage of the unravelling of their business empire. It allows the repayment of £575m of existing bonds , which were to come due in August next year. It also simplifies the challenged retailer's finances as other lenders grapple with its future. The company is chaired by Nadhim Zahawi, the former Conservative MP. He was chancellor for a month in 2022. The transaction pushes Very's massive borrowings to a fresh high and comes at a heavy price. Very will pay an effective interest rate of more than 13pc, it is understood.
