Central Securities: A Strong Equity Allocation For Uncertain Times Summary The US stock market is expensive, but most long-term investors should have some broad-based equity exposure. CET is an equity-focused closed-end fund trading at a discount to NAV, which itself likely understates the true value. Its largest holding is an insurance company that has compounded book value by 18% over 34 years and delivered superior business and investing results. The fund's public equity investmenting history also includes early investments in Intel and Analog Devices. A holding in CET is a good way of getting relatively broad-based equity exposure at a discount. The S&P 500 is right around record highs, but there are plenty of reasons to be worried Yet, for investors with long time horizons, it's hard to justify zero allocation to US stocks.
