The development is significant because British American Tobacco ( BTI ) products usually contain naturally occurring nicotine derived from the tobacco plant. Synthetic nicotine is a laboratory-created form of nicotine that does not originate from tobacco plants. It's chemically identical to tobacco-derived nicotine, but produced through various reactions using precursors like niacin (vitamin B3). While marketed as a "tobacco-free" alternative, synthetic nicotine is considered to still carry some of the same addictive properties and potential health risks as its natural counterpart. British American Tobacco ( BTI ) is holding its Capital Markets Day event on Wednesday. Ahead of the event, the company said it is on track for full-year 2024 guidance.
