The KBW Nasdaq Bank Index tumbled by more than 8% in late-morning trading, as Wall Street reacted to news that the administration will impose tariffs of at least 10% on all imported goods, with even higher levies on countries including Japan, China and European Union nations. Vietnam, a major U.S. trading partner, faces a 46% tariff, while goods from Thailand face a 37% tariff. The KBW Nasdaq Bank Index, which tracks the performance of the 24 U.S. largest banks, has been in a slump for much of the past month amid tariff policy confusion and concerns about an economic recession. The index is down nearly 12% year to date. Shares in Citigroup fell by 9.9% on Thursday morning, the biggest drop among the largest U.S. banks, while the stock-price decline at Bank of America was 9%. At Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Wells Fargo, share prices dropped by 7.6% to 7.9%.
