Most Read from Bloomberg The Japanese currency depreciated to 143.95 in Asian trading on Thursday, the weakest in two weeks, before partially recovering. Shares in Japan jumped after the yen's tumble on expectations that exporters will benefit, with the Nikkei 225 climbing as much as 2.8%. The Japanese currency has been on a wild ride in recent months, sliding to a 38-year low against the dollar in July before surging about 13% since then. Moves by the Bank of Japan have helped drive the yen's rebound, as it surprised markets with a second rate hike this year on July 31 and signaled it's ready to raise further depending on the price and economic outlook. The Fed has also been a dominant factor for the Japanese currency, triggering a weakening against the dollar after it cut the benchmark rate by half a percentage point on Wednesday but Chair Jerome Powell cautioning that such a move shouldn't be seen as a new pace of policy easing.
