Software is eating the world, and while a large number of solutions such as project management or video conferencing software can be useful to a wide array of industries, some have very specific needs. As a result, vertical software, which addresses industry-specific workflows, is growing and fueled by the pressures to improve productivity, whether it be for a life sciences, education, or banking company. The 16 vertical software stocks we track reported a slower Q1; on average, revenues beat analyst consensus estimates by 0.9%. while next quarter's revenue guidance was 2.3% below consensus. Valuation multiples for many growth stocks have not yet reverted to their early 2021 highs, but the market was optimistic at the end of 2023 due to cooling inflation. The start of 2024 has been a different story as mixed signals have led to market volatility, and while some of the vertical software stocks have fared somewhat better than others, they collectively declined, with share prices fall
