Wafer fab equipment spending should now be flat in 2024 and up 2% year-over-year in 2025, Mizuho analyst Vijay Rakesh said. He previously estimated 2025 would be up 3% to 4% year-over-year, while the consensus estimate calls for growth of 7% to 10%. As such, Rakesh lowered his price target on Applied Materials to $225 from $245 and cut his target on Lam Research to $950 from $1,050. He maintained his Outperform ratings on both stocks. Despite the concerns related to Intel and China, strong artificial intelligence-related spending — which impacts everything from advanced packaging, to gate-all-around, to high-bandwidth memory and leading edge foundries — along with stable mature node demand in China should aid wafer fab equipment spending next year, Rakesh added.
