After learning that the food was “spoiled,” according to People , Delta flight 136 was then diverted early Wednesday morning to John F. Kennedy Airport in New York after taking off from Detroit. “Delta's Food Safety team has engaged our suppliers to immediately isolate the product and launch a thorough investigation into the incident,” a spokesperson told Fortune . “This is not the service Delta is known for and we sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delay in their travels.” It was a little late though, as some 70 passengers reportedly became sick, a source told CBS Detroit , adding that they stopped eating the chicken after feeling it “was really sour,” while others said black mold was on some of the meals.
