De acuerdo con El Confidencial, Air France-KLM propuso adquirir el 51% de la compañía española a su principal accionista, el grupo turístico Globalia, controlado por la familia Hidalgo. El grupo franco-neerlandés, asesorado por Société Générale, también se comprometió a asumir la deuda contraída por Air Europa con el Estado español durante la crisis del covid. Si esta operación llega a concretarse, la familia Hidalgo, que actualmente posee el 80% de Air Europa, solo conservaría el 29%, frente al 20% de IAG, casa matriz de British Airways e Iberia, precisa El Confidencial.
