The S&P 500 was down 0.3% in late trading after surrendering an early gain of 0.9%. It's coming off a four-day losing streak that knocked Wall Street off its all-time high The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 243 points, or 0.6%, with a little less than an hour remaining in trading, and the Nasdaq composite was 0.2% lower. Advance Auto Parts tumbled 19% after the retailer said it made less profit out of each $1 of revenue during the latest quarter than a year earlier, in part because of liquidation sales at stores it closed. Apple, meanwhile, was the heaviest weight on the S&P 500 after dropping 3%. The stock market has generally been struggling following some weaker-than-expected reports on the economy, including a couple that showed U.S. households are getting more pessimistic about inflation and tariffs pushed by President Donald Trump .
