But the Federal Reserve's monetary easing cycle, initiated last week, may set the stage for a recovery, Wells Fargo said in a Wednesday note. "Lower interest rates are not a magic bullet, but less restrictive monetary policy lays the groundwork for a commercial real estate recovery," wrote analyst Charlie Dougherty. The recent decline in long-term interest rates is already supporting the beaten-down CRE market, he noted, with upward pressure on cap rates easing and declines in property values slowing.
