The popular software is helping bolster memberships at Sam's Club. The technology has helped grow digital sales at BJ's. Warehouse-club shoppers are embracing apps that let them skip the cash register. Sam's Club and BJ's Wholesale Club say their members like using their phones to scan items in warehouses, and then pay on apps. The technology's growing popularity has helped sell more Sam's Club memberships, and propel online sales at BJ's, executives said this week. “Our digital business is, frankly, on fire,” BJ's ( BJ ) CEO Robert Eddy said during a third-quarter earnings call, according to a transcript provided by AlphaSense. “We're really doing a great job saving our members' time.” BJ's digital sales grew 30% year-over-year thanks, in part, to Express Pay, the tool that lets members check out on their phone, Eddy said.
