Major tech companies are investing in renewable energy sources, but due to the frantic pace of development – AI-related demand for computing power is every three to four months – that alone won't solve the problem. Currently, estimates from the International Energy Agency hold data centers responsible for 1% of the world's electricity consumption and 0.6% of global greenhouse emissions, figures that are to grow by 2030 to 2.8% and 1.9% respectively.
