And the Jefferson County Industrial Development Agency wants to be ready for the ripple effects of the Micron Technology project, so it has hired a Syracuse marketing firm to promote what the county has to offer. Last week, the JCIDA board agreed to retain Strategic Development Specialists to represent the JCIDA and market the county to Micron and Onondaga County officials. "We want to assist in any way we can with their project," said Marshall Weir, the JCIDA's chief executive officer. Micron is expected to break ground next year on its $50 billion plant, which would employ 9,000 people. Weir wants to make sure Micron is aware of the assets Jefferson County can offer. One of the biggest assets is the 88-acre site near the Watertown International Airport, where Convalt Energy was going to construct a solar manufacturing plant.
